Hi, guys! It’s been a while! I’ve had a super tumultuous few months and didn’t really have the writing bug, but I’m back! And yes, it’s true. I ran away from home.
To the Smoky Mountains!
Last week my partner and I escaped to the Smokies for some much needed R&R. This past January we celebrated our 10 year anniversary and we have never once gotten away by ourselves. Not once! So, it was definitely time.
We picked out a simple studio cabin in Sevierville, TN that’s owned by The Canin Pros, who have properties all over the Smokies. We booked it through AirBnB and it was a really easy process. 3 nights ended up costing us $480 total. For 3 nights in a secluded honeymoon cabin with amenities, including a hot tub, a jacuzzi tub, and amazing views, I felt this was a great price.
The cabin came with a queen sized bed, a fireplace, a kitchen, a full bathroom, a washer and dryer, wifi, TV, cable, Blu-ray player, and of course the hot tub and jacuzzi bathtub. It was a very small cabin but absolutely perfect for just two people looking to hide away for a while.
We spent most of our time at the cabin in bed! Not just…ya know…doing married couple stuff, but basking in the sunlight, drawing, reading, talking. The light in the mornings was gorgeous and the windows all faced the east, so the sunrises were breathtaking.
The jacuzzi bathtub was heart shaped (of course!) and I had some trepidation about us both fitting into it. But it is so much bigger in person than in pictures! We both sat in it comfortable and enjoyed several bubble baths while there!
But, my favorite aspect of the cabin and our trip was the privacy! The listing said it was secluded, but I didn’t expect it to be really, REALLY secluded! The cabins line a winding road up to the very top of one of the mountains, and cabins are tucked away along the road, with family cabins further down and less private. At the very top are the honeymoon cabins, on their own little roads with just two cabins on each offshoot.
When you arrive you do see that you have “neighbors”, but we never once actually saw or heard our neighbors. And the way the cabins are positioned, once you’re on the back porch, you can no longer see the other cabin because there are so many trees between the two. For this reason, we took to calling our cabin a “treehouse”, because you’re literally nestled in with the canopy and we couldn’t see anything on either side of the back porch but trees.
This privacy and seclusion was so needed. It allowed us to be alone with nature in a way I haven’t been in years. One afternoon a sudden thunderstorm came down and as we sat and watched the rains water the forest, a hawk swooped in and temporarily perched under the porch with us, before carrying on his way. Another day a humming bird flew past us and tucked itself into a tiny nest, just 15 feet from the edge of the porch. But the best part of this privacy was the hot tub.
That week I checked something off my Bucket List: skinny dipping in a hot tub in the woods. It was everything I hoped it would be. The freedom I felt there was unlike anything I’d experienced in a long, long time.
Overall, it was pure magic. We left The Cabin Pros a 5 star review and we’re already planning our next trip for sometime this fall. Having now gotten away like this, I realize how important it is for my partner and I to do this at least once a year. The time we spent together, being kind to one another and remembering why we fell in love was absolutely amazing.
Worth every penny. 💙
